"Passing on the Gift" 2011 Spring Campaign
Message from Heifer's Senior Director of Innovation, Tom Peters

Dear Volunteer,
As you know, Heifer has sought ways to increase the number of families around the world it can help move to self-reliance. For the last two years, one way we've been able to do this is through an annual campaign. This year's Pass on the Gift Campaign is different in two ways. First, it goes beyond April to include all of spring (March, April and May).

The second change is a focus on Women in Livestock Development (WiLD). Participating individuals and groups can opt to send any funds they raise to the WiLD fund, which will go specifically to projects made up of 100 percent women. Campaign materials that focus on the empowerment of women can be found at heifer.org/wild

Of course, if a group wants to support the campaign, but their emphasis is something other than women (and we already are aware of a number of these events), that's fantastic, as well. All of Heifer's projects need support.

We are asking people putting on any kind of event this spring, whether in their home or in a work place, school or congregation, or supporting the campaign through an online activity (Team Heifer, Team WiLD, "liking" Heifer on Facebook) to post their activity on the online map. This is found at www.heifer.org/wild

Attached is a WiLD Campaign Booklet.pdf that you can use to help us spread the word. Thanks, so much for your commitment to ending poverty and giving families a new beginning!

Tom Peterson, Senior Director of Innovation

Cows in Malawi!!! by Sara J. Lane
If you know me, you know how much I love cows, having grown up on a dairy farm and yada, yada, yada... So, I was in cow heaven yesterday when I took a tour of Heifer Internationalís dairy cow project in Mchinji district in the western part of Malawi. The staff at Heifer Malawi were kind enough to set up a very nice tour for me and two of my fellow Peace Corps volunteers, and I canít begin to adequately express how impressed and inspired we were by what we saw. more>>
